The second volume of
All-Star Companion is out and it contains a short mention of my
collaboration with writer Roy Thomas in the early 80's. I was new to the game, but it was a
great learning experience for me because of the huge reference material I had to work from
getting all those costumes correct. Like getting the fine costume details between three
versions of the Flash, not the different Flash characters but the way one character's costume
changed through the years that were referred to in the panels. My pencils were also inked by
the legendary
Alfredo Alcala. It was an interesting result, I felt honored to have had a master
draughtsman like Mr. Alcala work over my pencils, but I feel Mr. Alcala's ornate
rendering style was handicapped by the restrictions of very colorful superhero
costumes, and working with such a total newbie!
Oh and here's a Batman study via digital paint (Photoshop):

This was based on a pic of Adam West, he was in costume and climbing through a window
with Burt Ward as Robin. I altered Batman's look to suit my style. It would be fun to do a
whole book this way.
