A rough sketch of the original Firestorm.
Firestorm was the first professional comic book job I worked on back in the 80's.
My style has evolved since then and my pencils were heavily inked,but it was a fun introductory gig to the industry.

Concept design. Pen and ink.

Gottfried Von Kalmbach was the German knight in the original Red Sonya story by Robert E. Howard titled "Shadows of the Vulture". Red Sonya of Rogatino was the prototype for Roy Thomas' Red Sonja character.

This was a rough sketch of Von Kalmbach when Roy and I were trying to get an adaptation of the original Shadows story off the ground. I wanted to get an idea of the armor he wore which were picked up along the way from various battles.
