 ARROWS

Detail of sketch below.

Used a Koh - I - Noor large diameter jumbo lead holder (red, hexagon plastic barrel) and india ink on a large sheet of drawing paper.

Akira Kurosawa was the first film maker I recall who used this powerful image of a warrior ( a samurai in that case) impaled with such a great number of arrows that they resembled walking pin cushions. Actual Third Crusade accounts contain descriptions of Templars looking like porcupines with all the arrows jutting out of their armor.

This sketch has the warrior with several spears broken off from a close quarter melee. Perhaps one just struck his shield a moment prior to this shot, and his body language shows him recovering from the impact.

 AMON TOBIN

Drew this about 20 years ago. I've since painted versions in watercolor, pen/ink, and scan/ran another thru some P-Shop filters.

Had never heard of Amon Tobin back then, but now I hear AT's music everytime I see this image.

This image is cropped quite a bit.
It's based on the Dowager's Hump, a bar that Combines (human and machine) frequent after hours.

I note a theme forming...

 SW

These are rough sketches prior to STAR WARS Episode One, TPM. They are unpublished and do not depict anything from the actual film or script.

I was given several model sheets of the Darth Maul / Young(er) Obi- Wan characters. With little info on the film at that time, I envisioned these types of skirmishes.

 NYC LIBRARY STEPS

A few years ago, I was sketching on the steps of the NYC Library near 42nd street. This was prior to the ipodemic. I began to notice that just about everyone walking by was attached to some device or object. Cell phones, bookbags, walkmans, watches, organizers, etc.

Although greatly exaggerrated in this image, we're probably not too far away from a scene like this.

...we all know those surveillance pigeons already exist...
